To reduce greenhouse gas emissions and help Ontario reach its climate change goals, WM is proposing to build a new renewable natural gas (RNG) facility at their Twin Creeks Environmental Centre, formerly known as the Warwick Landfill, in Watford, Ont. (in the Township of Warwick). The $100 million project will capture landfill gas generated by decomposing waste and transform it into RNG, which will then be injected into the natural gas system at Enbridge Gas’ Watford Station.

The proposed project includes construction by Enbridge Gas of a new RNG injection station, tie-in station, and related pipelines, including:

  • Construction of an RNG injection station at the WM Twin Creeks Environmental Centre, located in the Township of Warwick, Ont.
  • Construction of a new 4-inch diameter pipeline, approximately 20 km in length, between Enbridge Gas’ Dawn-Parkway Line at Watford Station (located in the Municipality of Brooke-Alvinston) and Twin Creeks.
    • Most of the new pipeline is tentatively to be located within the existing municipal Rights-of-Way in the County of Lambton, Township of Warwick and Municipality of Brooke-Alvinston.
    • The preferred pipeline route includes a rail bridge and minor watercourse crossings.
  • Minor modifications will be required at Watford Station, on the Enbridge Gas Dawn to Parkway transmission pipeline, to accommodate the injection of RNG at that location.

The project is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 70,000 tonnes per year, which is the equivalent of taking 28,000 cars off the road.

The project is subject to Ontario Energy Board (OEB) approval and if approved, construction may begin early in 2024 and be completed by the end of 2024.
