Low-Income Energy Assistance Program

While natural gas provides good value, we understand that sometimes it's a struggle to get all your bills paid every month. If you're having trouble paying your heating bill, the Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP) may be able to help.

Developed by the Ontario Energy Board, LEAP is a year-round program to assist low-income customers with their natural gas bill. LEAP provides emergency relief with a one-time financial grant of up to $500 for eligible low-income customers experiencing difficulty paying already "past due" bills. The financial grant amount can vary depending on individual account circumstances and other factors. As there are limited funds available through the program, it is recommended that you apply early in the year.

How LEAP works:

  • Eligible customers can apply to receive a one-time payment of up to $500 per household per calendar year, which is credited directly to their natural gas bill to cover natural gas costs. This program does not cover charges from other companies.
  • You may be able to prevent disconnection while your application is being reviewed.
  • The program is designed to provide emergency relief - you're expected to continue to manage your natural gas bills.

Who is eligible:

  • A social service agency partnered with us will assess whether you're eligible, based on a number of factors such as household income, the number of people in your home and your arrears status with your natural gas utility.
  • You'll be asked to provide documents such as natural gas bills, disconnection notices, identification, proof of household income, bank statements, etc.
