Scam Alert: Text Message Refund or Rebate

We are asking customers to be extra cautious, and want you to be aware of a text messaging scam.

This text scam advises that a ‘refund’ or 'rebate' has been processed (or is ready) and asks the recipient to click a link to complete an INTERAC e-Transfer. Other companies have reported customers receiving variations of this scam by email.

We do not communicate with our customers by text message. Refunds are generally processed either directly on the bill or via cheque. Email transfers are available, but only at the customer's request.

Anyone that receives a text or email, like the example below, should

  • Not click on any links
  • Not share any personal or account information
  • Report suspicious activity to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or email the details to our Customer Ombudsman at
