Start Gas Service for Your Home

Getting natural gas at home is easy. Just follow these steps:

Step one: find out if you have a natural gas line on your street

The easiest way to find out whether gas service is available to you is to contact us at 1-888-427-8888. You can also look at our service area page which shows which towns and cities we serve.

If gas is not available on your street
You may still be able to receive natural gas. You can start by contacting our Customer Connections Contact Centre at 1-888-427-8888 for further information or to confirm if gas is available. 

Step two: find a contractor

Once gas is available on your street, you'll need a licensed heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) contractor to hook up your gas appliances.

You or your HVAC contractor will be required to complete an application for service on your street by submitting a gas application. To prevent a delay in service installation, please ensure all requested information is accurate, this includes the requested measurements.

Step three: get connected

It's important that you do not disconnect any current heating equipment until your natural gas service and meter are installed.

A construction estimate will be completed by Enbridge to determine the installation costs and a feasibility analysis will be completed to determine if there is a cost to install the service. The installation costs can be high depending on the nature of the installation. Enbridge will notify the property owner of any associated costs and the property owner must formally agree to these costs before Enbridge can process the application.

Once associated costs have been received, Enbridge will start processing and planning the installation based on the next-available appointment.

The installation can take 7 to 12 weeks for street service installations where a gas main already exists in front of a property. Installation times increase in the fall and early winter due to increased demand. Once your application has been processed you will be contacted to discuss scheduling. We ask for your patience as we work to connect our valued new customers.

It is important that you start using natural gas within six months of installation or you will be charged $2,500 to help recover the cost of installation at your property.

Step four: get everything inspected

Once you have been connected to the gas line, your HVAC contractor will install your natural gas equipment and appliances and connect the supply line to your gas meter.

For your safety, we will inspect your gas meter and the appliances for free to make sure your installation meets all applicable codes and standards. (If it does not meet our requirements, you will have to pay for additional inspections.)

Contact us at 1-877-362-7434 to book an appointment. We can perform an inspection the same day your gas equipment is hooked up.

Remember, don't disconnect any of your current equipment until your gas service and meter have been installed and passed our inspection.
