Nov. 4, 2025

GASTONIA, N.C. (Nov. 4, 2025) – This fall marked a major milestone for the T15 Reliability Project, as the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Water Resources granted a 401 Water Quality Certification and the Army Corps of Engineers issued a Section 404 permit, clearing the way for construction to begin. Enbridge Gas kicked off work in Rockingham County on October 27. Project activities are anticipated to span approximately two years, with the project expected to be in service by the end of 2027.

“After several years of thoughtful planning, public input and permitting, Enbridge Gas has the regulatory approvals needed to move forward with the T15 Reliability Project, a key infrastructure project that will position us well to support and enable North Carolina’s growth for decades to come,” said Rusty Harris, Vice President & General Manager of Enbridge Gas North Carolina. “We will continue to work proactively with stakeholders, including the community, to keep them informed as project construction progresses.”

North Carolina was recently ranked the top state for business, a recognition that reflects its strong economic climate. The T15 Reliability Project directly supports this momentum by ensuring that energy infrastructure keeps pace with the state’s rapid growth and increasing demand for reliable, resilient energy. The project will modernize the backbone of the natural gas transmission system that over 400,000 Enbridge Gas customers across the Triangle depend on.

The existing pipeline that carries natural gas to much of the Triangle has reached its transportation capacity due to its size and age, and new, modern infrastructure is needed. Enbridge Gas averages a 2.5 percent increase in its customer base year-over-year in the Triangle, underscoring the demand for natural gas in the region. The project will also support North Carolina’s energy modernization, enabling new natural gas-powered generation to meet growing energy demand.

The issuance of the 401 and 404 permits followed a thorough review of Enbridge Gas’ planned construction methods to minimize temporary and permanent surface-level impacts. Enbridge Gas is committed to complying with all permit specifications and conditions. The pipeline will also run along predominantly existing right-of-way, reducing environmental and community impacts.

Enbridge Gas will engage with landowners along the pipeline corridor to ensure they are appropriately notified in advance of scheduled work in their vicinity. Learn more about the T15 Reliability Project.
