Avoid seasonal ups and downs with Budget Billing

Budget Billing is an optional payment program for customers in North Carolina that help make bills more predictable by owing the same amount each month. Budget Billing takes the guess-work out of paying bills by dividing your estimated annual billing amount into 12 equal payments.

Frequently asked questions:

Please call 877-776-2427 and a customer service representative will determine your eligibility and calculate your Budget Billing payment amount.

To determine your monthly Budget Billing payment amount, we average your 12 previous bills and the projected cost of energy over the next 12 months and divide that amount into 12 equal payments.

Yes. Your bill will show your actual energy usage and charges, your total amount due and your Budget Billing payment amount. You simply pay your Budget Billing payment amount each month.

Throughout the year, we compare your actual usage to the estimated amount used to calculate your monthly budget plan payment and determine if a change needs to be made. If your usage is higher or lower than expected, or if there has been a significant rate change, we adjust your payment to keep your account in balance.

Your payment amount is reviewed in February and recalculated in August each year.

If the total amount you paid during the 12-month period is more than your actual billing amount (we owe you), then we'll apply that amount to your recalculated Budget Billing payment amount for the next 12 months.

If the total amount you paid is less than your actual billing amount (you owe us), then you can either pay the difference in full or have the difference added to your recalculated Budget Billing payment amount for the next 12 months.

Payments must be made in full by the due date to avoid a late payment charge of 1% of the outstanding billed and unpaid balance and/or being removed from Budget Billing.

You can stop budget plan at any time by simply notifying us by calling 1-877-776-2427 or sign into your account. When you stop using the Budget Billing, you will receive a refund or a charge equal to the Budget Billing balance due on your next bill. You will be dropped from Budget Billing if you miss two consecutive payments.
