Enbridge Gas is proposing to construct a 6-inch steel natural gas pipeline, 3.5 km in length, to meet the requirements of one of its customers in the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, Ontario.
Enbridge Gas plans to file a Leave to Construct Exemption application with the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) in May 2026. If the application is approved, construction could begin in the summer of 2027.
Through the environmental study and ongoing consultation with directly impacted landowners, agencies and Indigenous communities, Enbridge Gas has selected Alternative Route 1 as the Preferred Route for the project.
This route involves the construction of a 6-inch steel natural gas pipeline, 3.5 km in length. The pipeline would start at a connection point to the existing Enbridge Gas natural gas system line on Simpson Line near Haskell Road. From there, the pipeline would travel approximately 750 m west to the intersection of Simpson Line and Askew Road. At the intersection, the pipeline would travel approximately 2.2 km south on Askew Road to the intersection of Askew Road and Talbot Trail. It would then travel west for 600 m on Talbot Trail to connect to an existing station on the customer site.
The project would be located mainly within the municipal road right-of-way, and may require easements, working space and lay-down areas during construction.
