We're bringing natural gas infrastructure to rural communities.

As a regional hub in the Uinta Basin, West Roosevelt, Utah, plays an important role in connecting people, services, and opportunities across the area.

Enbridge Gas Utah has selected West Roosevelt as the next potential candidate in the ongoing rural expansion initiative. This project is dedicated to supporting this unique area by working alongside community leaders, residents, to strengthen local resources and invest in community infrastructure for the future. This potential extension will provide natural gas to residential, commercial and industrial customers.

This project reflects a significant investment into the infrastructure and community, including running more than 22 miles of intermittent high pressure pipeline throughout West Roosevelt to homes and businesses.

Here, you’ll find updates, insights, and opportunities to get involved as we move forward together.

Frequently asked questions

Pending regulatory approval, this will be the ninth proposed project in Enbridge Gas Utah’s Rural Expansion Initiative.

Numerous rural communities were surveyed to determine their interest in natural gas. All potential communities were evaluated using several criteria, including:

  • Total project cost
  • The number of potential new customers
  • Impact on current natural gas operations and infrastructure

With this information West Roosevelt was chosen as a potential rural expansion project for 2027. From here, we will rely on input and interest from community leaders and residents. This will all be included in a filing with the Utah Public Service Commission (PSC) for review and final approval of the project.

With approval from the PSC, Enbridge Gas Utah will move forward with the West Roosevelt expansion. We believe that offering natural gas will help this community’s potential growth.

Once we receive regulatory approval for the project from the Utah Public Service Commission, construction and installation of natural gas mainlines will begin mid-2027 with completion in the late fall of 2027.

With the mainlines in place, service techs will begin connecting homes to the service lines.

If you’re Interested in natural gas service in West Roosevelt, please fill out and submit a natural gas interest form. Once you’ve completed and submitted the form, a pre-construction representative will contact you to set up an appointment.

Generally, natural gas costs less than propane. In fact, the average Enbridge Gas residential customer’s annual costs are one third of comparable residential propane customer costs in Utah.

Here’s some math to show the monthly breakdown. Enbridge Gas Utah, Wyoming, and Idaho customers currently pay $9.21 per dekatherm (the unit of measurement for natural gas usage) with a basic monthly service fee of $6.75. By comparison, propane currently costs $2.34 per gallon, which is equal to $25.54 per dekatherm (1 dekatherm of natural gas equals roughly 10 gallons of propane).

That will depend largely on how much natural gas is used, but based on current rates, the typical Enbridge Gas residential customer in Utah will pay about $725 per year.

This annual cost includes both general rate costs plus the cost of natural gas. General rate costs are expenses for the services used to provide natural gas service to customers, such as maintaining the system. The cost of gas is passed through to customers with no markup.

That will depend to some degree on what work needs to take place inside the customer’s home.

While the cost to convert fuel lines or appliances within the home will vary and are covered by the customer, to help keep new gas connection costs down, a law passed in 2018 by the Utah State Legislature to ensure all costs associated with new connections are shared across all Enbridge Gas Utah customers.

Variability in customer costs will depend largely on what appliances, if any, need to be converted or replaced, and what other contractor services are required within the customer’s home.

To learn more, fill out a customer interest questionnaire and one of our customer service reps will contact you.

In many cases, existing propane appliances can be converted to operate on natural gas rather than replaced. Whether a conversion is possible depends on the specific appliance model.

If an appliance can be converted, the cost of the conversion is the customer’s responsibility and must be completed and properly adjusted by a qualified contractor to ensure safe operation. However, if a propane appliance cannot be converted, it will need to be replaced with a natural gas appliance.

We recommend checking with your appliance manufacturer or a licensed contractor to understand your options before deciding.

Yes! This is an ongoing initiative for Enbridge Gas Utah. In partnership with the Utah State Legislature and the Utah Public Service Commission, we will continue this program to take affordable and reliable natural gas to more rural communities around the state of Utah.
