Project updates

Enbridge Gas has retained a third-party environmental consultant (Stantec Consulting Ltd.) to complete an Environmental Study for the project. The study will fulfill the requirements of the Ontario Energy Board’s (OEB) “Environmental Guidelines for the Location, Construction and Operation for Hydrocarbon Projects and Facilities in Ontario, 8th Edition. 2023”. The study will include a consultation program, impact assessment and a cumulative effects assessment.

It is anticipated that the Environmental Report resulting from the study will be completed in 2025. Pending a positive recommendation from the OEB to the Minister of Natural Resources for the issuance of well drilling licenses under section 40 of the OEB Act, and an OEB approval under section 38(1) of the OEB Act to increase the MOP of the Storage Pools, construction is anticipated to begin in Spring 2027.

Notices

Notice of Upcoming Project letters were mailed out to the Ontario Pipeline Coordinating Committee, agencies, local municipalities, directly and indirectly affected landowners, and Indigenous communities in October 2025. You can view the Notice of Upcoming Project here.

The OEB will also issue a Notice of a Hearing for the project, inviting the public and other interested stakeholders to review the application, apply to become an intervenor, and file a letter with comments. The OEB will also issue a Letter of Direction for the project, which will identify several parties Enbridge Gas is to serve the notice to. Enbridge Gas will serve Notice to all parties identified on the OEB’s Letter of Direction following issuance of the letter.

Regulatory information

The 2026 Storage Enhancement Project is regulated by the Ontario Energy Board (OEB), an independent government agency that regulates the electricity and natural gas sectors. After a public review and hearing, the OEB will determine whether to approve the project. In this section, you can review all regulatory files about the project once they are available.

Environmental Screening

In consideration of the impact identification and assessment process outlined in the OEB's Environmental Guidelines, Enbridge Gas retained the services of Stantec Consulting Ltd., an independent environmental consultant, to complete an environmental study for the proposed project.

The purpose of the environmental study is to identify potential environmental and socio-economic impacts associated with the installation of temporary access roads, gathering line replacements, station component replacements, well crossover replacements and wellhead upgrades for the project.

It will also recommend mitigation measures to limit impacts on the social, economic and natural environments. It is important to minimize potential negative impacts of the proposed natural gas facilities on the environment. The data, analysis and results of the environmental screening are detailed in the Environmental Report.

Maximum Operating Pressure Increase Application

Enbridge Gas intends to file a Maximum Operating Pressure increase application with the OEB in 2026. You can read the application here once it has been filed.
