What does this mean for you?
The federal carbon charge was removed from customer bills effective April 1, 2025. Please note that your bill will continue to show federal carbon charges incurred for any natural gas usage up to and including March 31, 2025.
For the average Ontario household, removal of the federal carbon charge will save customers about $336-$366 annually on their natural gas bill (depending on your location).
There continues to be a facility carbon charge included in the delivery or transportation charge on your bill. Effective July 1, 2025, this charge decreased from 0.0172 cents/m3 to 0.0123 cents/m3. For the average residential customer, the total facility carbon charge represents about 27-30 cents annually (depending on your location). This charge is associated with the costs to operate Enbridge Gas' facilities.
The federal government returns direct proceeds from the carbon pricing program to Ontario residents through the Canada Carbon Rebate (CCR). Due to the removal of the federal carbon charge effective April 1, 2025, the federal government has indicated that the final CCR payment for individuals will be issued starting April 22, 2025. To receive the final CCR payment starting April 22, 2025, individuals must file their 2024 income tax return electronically no later than April 2, 2025. For individuals who file their income tax return after April 2, 2025, their CCR payment should be issued once their 2024 return is assessed.
