The Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte and Shannonville residents are now able to benefit from access to a reliable energy source for their homes and businesses.
The Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte & Shannonville Community Expansion Project, located within the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory in Ontario, enabled Enbridge Gas Inc. (Enbridge Gas) to provide natural gas to area residents.
The Project is funded by $8,080,907 from the Ontario Government’s Natural Gas Expansion Program, in addition to the system expansion surcharge (23 cents/m3 to be paid over a term of 40 years by all customers served by the Project).
The Project involved the installation of approximately 17.3 kilometers (km) of a combination of 2-inch and 4-inch polyethylene natural gas pipeline. In addition, a station rebuild was required to accommodate additional customers onto the distribution system and is being constructed at the intersection of York Road and Highway 49, in the northwest corner. The project was installed mainly within the existing road allowance with additional temporary working space potentially required for lay-down, storage and excess soils management.
