The Regional Municipality of York participated in the Savings by Design Affordable Housing program in 2016 for their Woodbridge Lane project: a redevelopment of three properties into new, affordable apartments for renters with mixed incomes.

To optimize energy performance, the Region of Peel collaborated with sustainable building experts from the Savings by Design program for 360 City Centre Drive a 19-storey mixed rental building of 174 units, with amenities including an outdoor terrace, children’s playroom, fitness centre and more.

How the program works

No-cost integrated design process workshop

In this free full-day workshop, your team will strategize with sustainable design experts to maximize your project’s energy and environmental performance.

$7,500 technical assistance incentive

This financial incentive helps offset any consulting fees from your design team for time spent attending the workshop.

Up to $120,000 energy performance incentive

Based on the energy performance of the completed housing project, you could be eligible to receive financial incentives for each unit, up to $120,000 per project.

Youth Services Bureau designs life-changing homes for youth

Youth Services Hub, a new four-storey apartment building in Ottawa, received assistance from Savings by Design Affordable Housing at the early planning stages. High-risk, vulnerable youth now have an innovative new home that is more energy-efficient and comfortable.
