How to get your home or business connected

The process and timing depend on your home or business and location, but the overall steps are the same.

  • 1

Contact a local heating contractor to convert or replace your current equipment. Costs will depend on the age and type of system you have. Your contractor will provide an estimate and submit the service application.

  • 2

You’ll receive a confirmation email asking you to confirm your service address and billing information, and acknowledge the expansion surcharge of $0.23 per cubic metre, plus any applicable length costs.

  • 3

After Enbridge Gas installs the service, contact your heating contractor to have your appliances installed or converted to natural gas.

  • 4

Your heating contractor will arrange an appointment with Enbridge Gas. Your new natural gas equipment will then be inspected and activated in accordance with the Technical Standards and Safety Act.

How much does it cost to connect?

Monthly contribution: $1/month.

From new and existing natural gas utility customers in Ontario, implemented July 1, 2019.

Expansion surcharge: $0.23 per m³ of natural gas used.

The expansion surcharge may look like this: $0.23 × 2,320 m³ ÷ 12 months = $44/month. This example is based on average annual usage. Your actual cost will vary. Charges may be higher in winter months when heating demand increases.

Standard connection: $0 for most homes and businesses.

If the meter is within 20 metres of the property line, there’s no charge to install your service line. Includes one service line per property address. Conditions apply.

Premium connection: $170.06 per metre plus applicable taxes.

Only applies if the distance between your property line and meter exceeds 20 metres. Charges apply only to the portion beyond 20 metres and are added to your monthly bill.
