Maximize comfort with heating and ventilation equipment

Heat and ventilate more efficiently without increasing costs. Discover how upgrading the natural gas equipment below can help you save energy and improve the comfort of your building. Our Energy Solutions Advisors make it easy to upgrade, with expert help and incentives.

Top equipment upgrades

Condensing MUAs

For buildings with greater ventilation requirements, condensing make-up air units can improve air quality.

How MUAs work

Insulation

A well-insulated building doesn’t just keep heating and cooling costs down—it also improves comfort.

How insulation works

Air curtains & dock door seals

Get fixed incentives for easy upgrades to stop energy from leaking through shipping and receiving doors.

How to stop air leaks

Destratification fans

High warehouse ceilings? Save on heating with improved heat distribution from floor to ceiling.

How fans work

Demand control kitchen ventilation (DCKV)

Ventilation is the single biggest energy user in commercial kitchens—a big opportunity to save.

How DCKV works

Demand control ventilation (DCV)

Control ventilation, control costs. Ideal for optimizing fresh air flow in high occupancy spaces.

How DCV works

ERV/HRV

Energy and heat recovery ventilators can reduce heating and cooling costs by efficiently circulating fresh, outdoor air indoors.

How ERV/HRVs work

Hybrid rooftop unit (RTU)

Hybrid RTUs are a convenient solution that combine heating, cooling and ventilation in one unit to boost your building's energy efficiency.

Technology spotlight: Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)

Match airflow to real-time building demand
VFDs automatically adjust fan and pump speeds based on real-time building demand. By delivering only the airflow needed, VFDs can improve comfort, extend equipment life and help heating and ventilation systems operate more efficiently.

How VFDs work

Before VFD - 10,000 CFM of supply air*

  • Fans operate at full speed regardless of actual demand
  • System delivers constant, maximum air volume at all times
  • Full airflow needs to be heated
  • Results in natural gas and electricity use that is often higher than required

After VFD - 7,500 CFM of supply air*

  • VFD adjusts fan speed based on real-time demand (e.g., occupancy, load)
  • System delivers only the required air volume
  • Reduces the amount of air that needs to be heated
  • Results in lower natural gas and electricity use
Savings
  • up to 5,800 m3 annual natural gas savings
  • up to 49,000 kWh annual electricity savings

* 10,000 CFM and 7,500 CFM are used for illustration purposes only. Actual equipment CFM may vary.
† Actual natural gas savings may vary based on site-specific conditions. Calculation based on the following assumptions: heating season from October to May, supply air temperature of 20 C, return air temperature of 22 C, average Greater Toronto Area (GTA) outdoor air temperature, and all dampers set at 50% open position.
‡ Actual electricity savings may vary based on site-specific conditions. Calculation based on the following assumptions: year-round operation, burner efficiency 80%, motor loading 88%, motor efficiency 88%, VFD efficiency 97%.

How a $2,100 incentive helped Boston Pizza upgrade and save

Upgrading to DCKV and air curtains at its Niagara Falls location was a pilot project, but the results were so successful it’s being repeated at other franchise locations.

  • Up to 18,924 m3 in annual natural gas savings.
  • $2,100 incentive.
