Project update: September 8, 2025

Enbridge Gas recently made the difficult decision to cancel the Chute-à-Blondeau Project following a detailed review of the project’s financial viability, which has been informed by rising construction costs, supply chain challenges, and evolving market conditions. As a result, this project no longer meets the financial thresholds rate-regulated utilities must follow to receive Ontario Energy Board approval, and will not proceed under Phase 2 of Ontario’s Natural Gas Expansion Program (NGEP).

Enbridge Gas greatly values its relationship within the community and remains committed to working together on community-based energy solutions that support reliability, economic growth, and future energy needs.

The province’s recent Integrated Energy Plan has re-affirmed the need for an economically viable natural gas network to attract industrial investment, support business expansion, maintain customer choice, and ensure overall energy system resiliency, reliability and affordability.

To support a potential NGEP Phase Three, the Government of Ontario has launched a consultation to ensure community-level priorities on housing development, economic growth, affordability, and service needs are well represented in Ontario’s energy planning decisions. Interested parties are encouraged to submit comments before the deadline of September 22, 2025.

Should the government proceed with a subsequent NGEP Phase Three, Enbridge will work with the Township of East Hawkesbury based on the revised eligibility criteria and assessment process to determine if there is a viable path forward for an expansion project in this area.
