Bobcaygeon residents will soon be able to benefit from access to a cost-effective and reliable energy source for their homes and businesses.

The Bobcaygeon Community Expansion Project (the Project) will enable Enbridge Gas to provide natural gas to approximately 3,700 forecasted customers over 10 years.

The Project is funded by $68 million from the Ontario Government’s Natural Gas Expansion Program, in addition to the system expansion surcharge (23 cents/m3 to be paid over a term of 40 years by all customers served by the project).

To bring gas to Bobcaygeon, the following facilities will be required and are subject to Leave to Construct approvals:

  • Supply lateral required: Approximately 25 kilometers (km) of nominal pipe size (NPS) 6-inch extra high pressure (XHP) steel, 2 km of 6-inch high pressure polyethylene (HPPE) pipe and 1 km of 6-inch high pressure (HP) steel pipe.
  • Reinforcement required: Approximately 8 km of 6-inch XHP steel pipe.

Preliminary preferred route
The preliminary preferred route (PPR) is comprised of a supply lateral and reinforcement.

The supply lateral PPR consists of approximately 25 km of NPS 6-inch XHP steel pipe, approximately 2 km of 6-inch HPPE pipe and 1 km of 6-inch HP steel pipe and will originate near the intersection of Cowan’s Drive and Peace Road in Cowan’s Bay, Ontario. It will travel west on Peace Road from Cowans Bay Rd, north on Centreline Road (County Road 10), east on Pigeon Lake Road (County Road 17), north along County Road 36, east along Duke Street, and will terminate at Main Street.

The PPR also includes reinforcement of the natural gas systems in the vicinity of Janetville, Omemee, and Mount Pleasant which includes approximately 8 km of NPS 6-inch XHP steel and will start near the intersection of County Road 10 and Stewart Line. It will travel north on County Road 10 (Emily Park Road) and terminate south of Highway 7.

Alternate route(s)
An alternate route (AR) for the supply lateral was identified with the same start and end points as the PPR however has a minor deviation east along Traceys Hill Road, north on Eagle Road, east on St. Lukes Road and north on Cork Road to Pigeon Lake Road, north on County Road 36. The remainder of the AR scope (pipe sizing, stations, reinforcement, etc.) is the same as the PPR.

The preliminary proposed and alternate route(s) have been developed for purposes of an assessment of potential environmental and socioeconomic impacts and do not represent the final project scope/design that will provide access to natural gas to end-use customers.

We’re working in many project areas across Ontario as we prepare for future natural gas community expansion projects as part of the Ontario Government’s Natural Gas Expansion Program. Area residents may see our crews completing soil sampling, land surveying, test digs and holding field meetings, which are all activities that help inform our project routes and timelines for construction. This pre-work is ongoing, and you may occasionally notice equipment in operation, and some noise. We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause. This work is being conducted by Enbridge Gas employees, or contractors working on our behalf. All employees and contractors carry identification at all times.
