Enbridge Gas Inc. (Enbridge Gas) is proposing to construct the Boblo Island Community Expansion Project to provide affordable natural gas to the community of Boblo Island (the Project) in the Town of Amherstburg, Essex County, Ontario. The proposed project will include approximately 2.9 km of new natural gas pipeline consisting of a combination of 2” and 4" plastic and steel. The entire Project scope is distribution pipeline, with an approximate 600-meter crossing of the Detroit River. The proposed tie-in point will be near the intersection of Dalhousie St & Part St connecting to the existing 4” steel. The north part of the island is planned to be serviced, including Boblo Island Blvd, to Gold Coast Dr, Oram Dr, and Crystal Bay Dr.

We’re working in many project areas across Ontario as we prepare for future natural gas community expansion projects as part of the Ontario Government’s Natural Gas Expansion Program. This project is funded by approximately $1.9 million from the Ontario Government, in addition to the expansion surcharge (23 cents/m3) to be paid over a term of 40 years by all customers (on Boblo Island) served by the project. Area residents may see our crews completing soil sampling, land surveying, test digs and holding field meetings, which are all activities that help inform our project routes and timelines for construction. This pre-work is ongoing, and you may occasionally notice equipment in operation, and some noise. We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause. This work is being conducted by Enbridge Gas employees, or contractors working on our behalf. All employees and contractors carry identification at all times.
